It was one bottle, just one bottle, he had before shit started. The has to be a record for Steven. It wasn't even something strong, just a beer. In his defense, the guy approached him. Like he was supposed to know what lady was 'claimed' for the night! Steven wasn't even drunk. But, oh, did he pretend to be.

"Hey, buddy!"

Buddy. The drunken man stumbled over to him, so rudely interrupting his sweet talk with the fine young lady beside him. Steven just glanced at the man. "Hey." That was just about all the acknowledgement he gave him before returning to his previous conversation. Hm, the guy didn't seem to like that.

"She's mine."

The man hiccupped the words. Steven coppied the mans posture, putting on his drunk persona. At that point, the tavern mistriss walked away, scoffing at what she knew was about to ensue. "So?" When he was drunk, he didn't care what was who's. He knew because he was smart enough to stop just before the point where he wouldn't remember a thing the next morning. That was hard though.

Just as expected, and kind of hoped for, the man got mad getting ready to teach him a lesson, a small group of others standing behind him- Long story short, the bar went up, and Steven was the one kicked out. "Y'assholes made me spill my beer!" He shouted in his drunk voice, straightening up when the men went back to their business inside. Yeah, Steven held tight to the bottle.

The street was almost empty, afterall it was midnight. He thought about playing around and stumbling like a drunkard all the way back to the shop, but decided against it, and didn't even getting half way there before he sat on an uncovered shop porch and layed down, staring up at the cloudless sky. It was the dead of winter and the stars shown bright, almost unpoluted by the light from a street lamp. The sky was unbelievably clear, and it cleared his mind in turn. There was a shooting star.

Steven thought about wishing, but decided against that too. Not only didn't wishes never come true, his especially couldn't and wouldn't. The only way it'd happen was if time showed mercy on him and turned back the clock, giving him years back. That way he could stop those fucking Canyon gang from killing Selene- or die trying. And then he wouldn't be where he was now, literally and metaphorically.

Suddenly, it was bright out. A strau dog wandered by, sniffing and licking at Steven. "Beat it pooch..." He pushed the dog away as he woke up, squinting in the sunight. Well, at least there was no hangover from last night. His beer bottle even sat a quarter full in the dirt near him. As Steven sat up, he looked around. It probably was almost noon. There was no point in wondering why he wasn't kicked awake by an angry storeowner earlier, the town was so small no one cared. The most interesting this to do was drink... or stare at rocks.
